Republican Governor Nelson Rockefeller expanded the State University System under the policy to "Let each become all he is capable&nbsp;of being." It's time to live up to that promise by helping New Yorkers of all ages earn degrees, learn trades, and retrain for emerging fields.Yet our education system needs to not only prepare people for workforce opportunities but also to encourage critical and creative thinking skills and instill a joy in learning that will serve them throughout their adult lives. Preparing for day to day living, social interactions, civics knowledge and responsibility, and the ability to express ourselves and appreciate artistic expression are all important and we need a system that enables people to fully participate in every aspect of life.

Every New Yorker is entitled to the education and training needed to prepare them for a successful future.

State government needs to protect its citizens' quality of life

Goals

We've lost thousands of jobs as higher taxes have forced manufacturers to leave the state. There are limited&nbsp;opportunities for training in apprenticeship&nbsp;programs&nbsp;in fields like construction. We've been sitting by watching our main&nbsp;streets become ghost towns. New York must work with local communities to become more attractive to business and to revive our commercial districts.

Every New Yorker deserves access to good-quality, affordable healthcare, regardless of where they live.

Home ownership has become out of reach for many New Yorkers. Rising utility costs are crippling residents in our rural&nbsp;communities. And those on fixed incomes, like senior citizens and disabled veterans, are finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet. State government needs to protect its citizens' quality of life.

Our grassroots movement is powered by people from the Finger Lakes working to move the Finger Lakes Forward. No one person alone can achieve the goals we set out. Scott Comegys is a Working Families Democrat standing up to serve the Finger Lakes as our New York State Senator for the 54th District.The goal is to create a society in which everyone can successfully live the lives they choose as their genuine selves with Dignity, Prosperity, Security, and Justice.The Finger Lakes of New York State has always been an area where that ideal can be achieved. The People here share rural values of innovation, stewardship, collaboration, and compassion which have helped to build and maintain our communities. By understanding that we all succeed if we help all those around us succeed he earned the respect and trust of his staff and colleagues.In 2012 Scott and his wife, Bethany, built an alpaca farm in Palmyra, NY, making a dream they had into a reality. The idea behind the farm was to establish a place that held to sustainable farming practices with a product that had sustained an entire culture for millennia.While working hard at his farm he also re-entered school at Monroe Community College and earned his degree in Sustainability Studies in 2016. Both working at his farm and working for his degree gave him profound insight into the challenges our society is facing, but when his eldest child turned 18 in 2016 he had a realization that they did not have the same opportunities as a young adult that he did. That realization, more than anything else, inspired him to come forward and work for everyone's ability to overcome the challenges we face.Since then he has worked in the public sector as a clerk to the Palmyra Assessor, worked with NYS Public Health during the Covid Pandemic, was certified as a NYS Citizen Public Health Leader, and has organized to promote Women's Rights, the Rights of People of Color, Labor Rights, the New York Health Act, Justice Reform, Sustainable Agriculture, and Climate Justice.

New York State Government Has a Role in Our Society

Rural New York continues getting shortchanged on resources from Albany. It's time we had a representative in the room when important decisions are being made who will make our voices heard within the majority party of state government so we are not left behind. Responsible government involves developing trust and certainty within communities, so State government needs to be transparent as it works on behalf of all New Yorkers.Our state senator needs to bridge divides among state government, local governments, politicians, and community groups and recognize what is an appropriate role for government in our society.

New York must work with local communities to become more attractive to business and to revive our commercial districts.

Health care facilities are not easily accessible for many rural New Yorkers. At the same time, hospitals in these areas are increasingly in danger of shutting down. People in rural New York have the same right to health care as those in urban areas. Every New Yorker deserves access to good-quality, affordable healthcare, regardless of where they live or their income level.

I am committed to serving us in the New York State Senate, bringing our true rural experience to the work and delivering the resources we need for all of our families to accomplish their goals, to enact laws and policies that remove barriers to people's success and empower them to live the lives they choose.

<h2>What, exactly, do alpacas have to do with the New York State Senate?</h2>Good question!Scott Comegys is an alpaca farmer and creating his alpaca farm was one of the reasons that he and his wife moved to Palmyra in Wayne County, NY. Every New Yorker is entitled to the education and training needed to prepare them for a successful future.We have come a long&nbsp;way from the 1970s and 80s when Republican Governor Nelson Rockefeller expanded the State University System under the policy of letting "each become all he is capable&nbsp;of being."<ul><li>We have lost thousands of jobs as higher taxes have forced manufacturing jobs to leave the state.</li><li>We have limited&nbsp;opportunities for apprenticeship&nbsp;and pre-apprentice programs&nbsp;in fields like construction, particularly in rural&nbsp;New York, where these high paying jobs are crucial to our local economy.</li><li>We have been idly sitting by as big box operations and Amazon have turned local&nbsp;main&nbsp;streets into ghost towns.</li></ul>But we have a unique chance to change all that as MICRON in neighboring&nbsp;Onondaga County promises to bring tens of thousands of jobs to the region over the next decade. We need to prepare for an influx of working families, expand funding for our schools to accommodate the increased strain on our educational infrastructure, and make sure our kids have the skills necessary to compete for those jobs.

From the Dansville Chamber website-"The Dansville Dogwood Festival is an annual event that is as anticipated as the famous NYS Festival of Balloons. The Festival has been an integral part of the Dansville community since the 1960s. The festival continues to be the longest running community event of its kind in our local area. Over the years, events have come and gone but one constant remains the same, the level of community&nbsp;involvement.The festival always takes place the week following Mother’s Day. It begins on that Monday and runs through the following Sunday. A parade featuring local bands, fire departments, and other floats marches down Main Street to Babcock Park at 5 p.m. on the Saturday of the week. This event is often so highly attended that spectators set up their seats early that morning to ensure they have the location they most desire.Other festival highlights include the 5K Dogwood Festival Walk and Run, an annual craft show, chicken barbecue, a carnival and more. Local community organizations, the Dansville Central School and other community members assist in organizing events in participation of the annual festival."

Come and join us at the annual Wolcott Strawberry Festival! We will be in the 4PM parade walking with the Wayne County Democratic Committee and invite supporters to walk with us! Lineup starts at 3PM at the Florentine Hendrick School, 5751 New Hartford St, Wolcott, NY 14590, and enjoy the vendors and fun at the Strawberry Festival!
