Workforce Development

Every New Yorker is entitled to the education and training needed to prepare them for a successful future.

We have come a long way from the 1970s and 80s when Republican Governor Nelson Rockefeller expanded the State University System under the policy of letting "each become all he is capable of being."

  • We have lost thousands of jobs as higher taxes have forced manufacturing jobs to leave the state.

  • We have limited opportunities for apprenticeship and pre-apprentice programs in fields like construction, particularly in rural New York, where these high paying jobs are crucial to our local economy.

  • We have been idly sitting by as big box operations and Amazon have turned local main streets into ghost towns.

But we have a unique chance to change all that as MICRON in neighboring Onondaga County promises to bring tens of thousands of jobs to the region over the next decade. We need to prepare for an influx of working families, expand funding for our schools to accommodate the increased strain on our educational infrastructure, and make sure our kids have the skills necessary to compete for those jobs.
